If the BNF allows some syntax, we need to define its semantics, or make it illegal, or my third choice: just allow it and ignore the fact that the lifetime of a class property is slightly different from the way we have defined automatic variables, Static class properties have lifetimes that are identical to the way we have defined static variables. It would be redundant, but the BNF allows it. However, some tools are not allowing it. Also, with respect to a class property, not a method, is there a difference whether the 'static' keyword is considered to be a class_item_qualifier or a lifetime? I don't think it makes a difference, but I want to check.
