Questa/ModelSim has been compliant with the 1800-2005 spec (no newline with a continuation backslash) since version 6.2 released in June 2006. Prior to 6.2 we retained the newline. We have not had any customer reported issues since the behavior changed and are comfortable with retaining the current wording in the spec.
