This is probably *really* stupid, but....

I've lost track of the $typeof() mechanism.  Several Mantis items
(19,27,38,51,91,119,619,1311) refer to enhancements and fixes to
$typeof, but I can find no reference to "typeof" in the LRM, nor can I
find a Mantis item that removes it.  What have I missed?
